The good news is the best time to invest in marketing is when nobody else is doing it because you get much more exposure. The bad news is if your revenue is tanking because of the recession, it becomes a harder pill to swallow when even thinking about spending money on marketing.
What makes it so hard is most are not afraid to spend money in a down economy; the problem is they dread spending money on marketing if it does not produce results!
So the question is "What is marketing?" My interpretation of marketing is providing the educational information that moves a buyer towards the point when they are either ready to buy or to talk to a sales person. The content of the marketing is the critical component that triggers a part of the brain called the reticular activator (RA). That is the part of the brain that monitors (24 hours a day) common, familiar or problematic things. When you have a problem, the RA is scanning in the background (subconscious) looking for a solution. The RA will see the good marketing material and make you pay attention to it. Have you used the expression "It just caught my eye"; that is the RA working.
So the solution to generate more leads for your business, you will need to invest in marketing, but make sure you are using the right communications message that will trigger the RA in your readers, listeners or internet searchers.
Take for instance, you most likely are reading this blog because of the title. Your RA triggered you to read this because it is important and relevant and a problem for you because you are worried about spending money on marketing during a recession right!
Marketing is that simple. I understand and have created a new service for folks that want more leads but don't want to spend a lot. The web tool is www.ss2br.com and we are looking for beta trials to prove that we can generate leads for people and then help them convert them into customers. If you would like to participate and get leads for free, let us know at pr@ss2br.com
If you have questions about your marketing let us know also. Most likely if you have the question, so do about 5,000 other people. Let's help each other and avoid mistakes.
Cheers
George
